The Berghaus PRESS FWD Dean Street Collection Celebrates Rave Culture

Performance Gear For Ravers' in The Sticks

Berghaus returns with its latest Dean Street collection which celebrates rave culture and the legacy of Happy Valley with a range of performance apparel.

You probably saw Happy Valley and instantly thought of the West Yorkshire based TV crime drama featuring Sarah Lancashire & Siobahn Finnerman. We’re not talking about the two Oldham born actresses here though, we’re talking about the rave revolution of the late 1980s. Somewhere near Brands Hatch in Kent, Happy Valley played a pivotal role in the Second Summer of Love in 1989. The locals of rural Kent didn’t really know what had hit them with fairground rides, ravers pilled up to their eyeballs & the squelching sounds of Acid House reverberating through the Kent countryside. There were even these rumours that the organisers hired out steam rollers prior to “kick off” to flatten out the fields. It makes sense when you think about it, but the thing is it didn’t really matter if it was Ashworth Valley in Rochdale or Kent’s rural countryside. It was the whole spiritual experience of rave culture in the beginning that brought peace and unity to the youth who were experiencing the tail end of Thatcher’s (not so) Great Britain. The latest Berghaus PRESS FWD Dean Street collection celebrates rave culture & the legacy of Happy Valley.

Giving a nod to the origins of the North East outdoors label on Newcastle’s Dean Street, the Berghaus Dean Street celebrates archive silhouettes from the rave heydays of the late 1980s and the early 1990s. The latest PRESS FWD collection embraces the spirit of the UK’s homegrown dance music scene from the past to the present & features Fabio, Mixtress, Izco & DJ Rap. The unisex collection features signature Dean Street styles like the Tempest 89 jacket which as Berghaus put it themselves is “Berghaus storm wear at its best”. The Ski Smock 86 returns with its boxy fit and classic colour-blocking style. There’s also the introduction of the Eclipse Panel jacket which features a Hydroshell waterproof fabric as well as the Single Point Wind Smock in a striking pink colourway. Finally the Blockback Down jacket, as Berghaus put it, is “a proper chunky winter warmer”, featuring a Polyamide Ripstop fabric & 600 Fill Power Hydrophobic Down.
