Carhartt WIP x New Balance 990v1 'Sculpture Center'

Carhartt WIP & New Balance join forces for September 2022 with a local neighbourhood gym inspired 990v1 trainer, training apparel & a range of gym ready accessories for the daily grind.

Whenever Carhartt WIP gets involved with a trainer it’s usually pretty good. Take the camo clad Nike Air Max 95 trainer from 2018 which still holds his weight against trainer releases even 4 years later. September 2022 marks the first collaboration partnership between the original workwear brand & the Boston born sportswear label with the introduction of the ‘Sculpture Center’. Drawing inspiration from the neighbourhood gyms that can be found in all inner cities and town across the USA, the collaboration features the original 99x series silhouette from 1982 with the Carhartt WIP x New Balance 990v1 trainer which sees the Work in Progress line re-work the classic 80s runner.

Featuring the legendary 990x series trainer in a classic navy colourway alongside a collection of apparel & accessories the release is sure to go down a treat with fans of both brands. First released in 1982, at the height of the running trainer boom in the United States, the 990v1 marked the first chapter of the 990x series. Utilising state of the art trainer tech & a no fuss mentality, the hefty price point of the early 80s runner only added further to its desirability. Now re-worked Work in Progress style, the ‘Made in USA’ trainer features suede & mesh uppers in navy & grey with collaboration branding to the tongue tab and the signature ‘N’ logo to the sidewalls.

Also included in the Carhartt WIP x New Balance drop is a collection of graphic tees, garment dyed hoodies, sweatshirts & Carhartt’s Arkan chore jacket which feature the slogan ‘Sculpture Center’ throughout. If that wasn’t enough there’s also a reversible beanie, socks & a water bottle for those who take their hydration seriously. Merging the lines between traditional streetwear & gym gear, the collaboration reminds us of the original collaborations from a time when collaborating wasn’t just for the sake of it.
