The Super Ocean defines the classic dive watch. It was created by Breitling in 1957 to equip professional and military divers, but it immediately developed a following among leisure divers and watch enthusiasts. Aside from looking good, the new Superocean is also technical marvel. Broad hands and indexes coated in luminescent Super-Lumi Nova allow for superior readability underwater. At 300m (1000ft) water resistance, this watch triples the minimum requirement for dive watches. The strap has a folding clasp that allows for micro-adjustments of up to 15mm for easy wear over rashies and dive suits. It’s scratch-proof ceramic-inlayed bezel means it will never wear or fade. For safety, the bezel is uni-directional on most sizes and bi-directional with a patented lock on the 44mm. This watch is also shock-, sand- and saltwater-resistant. It’s automatic Breitling Caliber 17 comes with a two-year warranty and approximate 38-hour power reserve. As with all Breitling redesigns that pull from archives, the new superocean perfectly balances the nostalgia of its lineage with a fresh new look. There’s something for everyone in this design. Collectors will recognize the strong influence of the original Superocean Slow Motion, watersports enthusiasts will appreciate its technical features, and the style conscious will gravitate towards its day-to-night, beach-to-boardroom versatility.
