Spring/Summer 2024 marks the 15th year anniversary and the 30th collection from David Keyte & the “contemporary meets heritage” label, Universal Works
“Real, honest clothing”, probably couldn’t describe Universal Works much better if it tried. Launched by founder & head designer, David Keyte, back in 2009 Universal Works takes inspiration from classic work-wear and the working class cultures of the UK. Based out of Nottingham the British brand prides itself on sourcing only the best fabrics from across the world with a heavy focus on fabrics as much as their designs. The contemporary meets heritage label now celebrates its 15th year anniversary with its “proud to be independent” ethos as strong today as it was back in the late noughties. Expect plenty of workwear-esque, gilets, funky prints & military inspired outerwear from David Keyte and the Universal Works team for Spring/Summer 2024.
15 years is a long time to be in this particular spectrum of the menswear game. In that time we’ve witnessed the global takeover of what once was a small independent store in Newcastle with END. Clothing. The sad store closure of Oi Polloi in Manchester and the ever changing face of contemporary menswear. One brand that has firmly stuck its boots in from day one on the UK’s homegrown menswear scene is Universal Works. Still under the creative reigns of David Keyte their latest collection ‘From The Soul’ celebrates their 15 year milestone and their original mission; to help people feel good by dressing good with real, honest clothing made with peace, love, and soul.
Highlights of the latest Universal Works Spring/Summer 2024 collection includes paisley print shirts that are made in Portugal, parachute liner gilets & shorts made from moisture-resistant recycled polyester. Oxford pants boast an Italian garment-dyed compact weave fabric with mechanic hats giving a nod to Keyte’s lifelong obsession with work-wear. On the outerwear side of things there’s pullover anoraks in a cord summer garden print & classic raincoats with pockets a plenty.
